Kick-off meeting for the "Flash Detection Software" project
On October 5th, NOA kicked-off a new activity funded by ESA, aiming to create a public software tool for detecting lunar impact flashes, based on the NELIOTA detection algorithm. This tool will be developed at NOA over the next 12 months. With is release, we hope to encourage both amateur and professional astronomers to monitor the Moon and discover lunar impact flashes, with the goal of characterizing the size frequency distribution of meteoroids. The picture shows a screenshot from the participants in the zoom kick-off meeting, including NOA members: Alexios Liakos, Stefanos Achlatis, Ioannis Bellas-Velidis, Athanasios Maroussis and Alceste Bonanos, ESA staff: Detlef Koschny and Richard Moissl, as well as Max Klass and Gerhard Drolshagen from the University of Oldenburg, Germany.
